360 Modena
Don't bother giving Mark advice on either Ferrari's or GTRs. He'll not buy one, and just end up buying something like another Evo or S2000.
But the manual box (I tried in a 355) gives a real sense of occasion. It reminds you that you are in a Ferrari. Which I think is kind of the point of having a Ferrari. IMO.
A lot of car makers do flappy paddle gear boxes. But the open gate of a Ferrari is something at least worth trying before making a decision.

the classic Ferrari gate is not built for rapid changes
gears should be changed deliberately and you then ride the wave
the click clack change is one of the great automotive experiences
second gear is notoriously stiff until the oil has warmed - so what?
paddles are for the Playstation generation - and in the early cars expensive, short-lived and not particularly pleasant to use

It's the engine's hollow-sounding idle and the crescendo that ends in a scream at maximum rpm that really 'does' it for me.

I test drove a few Maserati Gransports a few weeks ago.
They have the same F1 gearbox in all of them
If you leave it in auto and let it do it's "thing" you can almost feel it scrapping bits off the clutch plate as it puts you through the windscreen on each gear change!
If you lift off slight as it goes to change it is a little better.
If you have it in manual or sport and do the lift off it is slightly better again.
None of the modes make it an "inspring" gearbox to use.
It's the only gearbox I know you can plug some electronics in to tell you how worn the clutch is!
Do you think they knew it was an issue from day one
My experience of F1 & DSG gearboxes have convinced me never to get another auto OF ANY SORT!
Get a manual!
