My mates dad was out walking his dog last sunday with his 8 year grandaughter and parked his car (a diesel Range Rover) up at a well known walking spot called the Roman Road near Ringinglow, Sheffield. He was only out for 20 mins or so and in that time passed some lads out walking that he described as eco warrior types. When he got back down to the car park, somene had engraved b a s t a r d s in large letters down the side of his car, covering the front and rear drivers side doors.

He's not sure who did it as there was no-one around when he came back to it. Guess it'll be a few hundred quid for a respray but just makes you wonder if people like that think doing such random acts of vandalism will actually achieve anything with regard to global warming as i guess thats whats its aimed at. If it was mine and i'd caught them there would have been blood! Thing is he bought the RR after having an S500 Merc for the last 4 years with no problems at all and i bet that was worse for the environment!

 

Of course its not deserved.

Its the usual jealous thugs with a gripe who think they're justified in damaging property because of some stupid cause, however misguided.

Personally I don't give a flying #### about carbon footprints but I'm sure respraying the side of a Range Rover will increase someone's.

Its a stupid as reducing the production of food in favour of 'Biofuel' production which in turn increases in the price of cereals to the global population.

Now RR drivers are often a PIA down country lanes (not slowing down etc) but I don't think it deserves that.

Remember, many eco-warriors are the same as all warriors; maladjusted yobs looking for a bandwagon (one that emits a lot of CO2, usually). It could be the IRA, Greenpeace, Transport 2000, football hooliganism, just themselves.

This is why Dr. Patrick Moore left Greenpeace, which he founded; Post cold-war, a lot of the militant commies & other groups took over basically well-meaning pressure groups.

sorry to hear that i have a 4x4 - as a toy to 'off road ' we do the ridgeway ( right of way ) most summers.. and every day you will get some toff walking there dog... ( who shits everywere and NEVER clears it up ) come up to you saying ' your spoiling the country side for the rest of us... ok tehre are some idiots that carve up tracks ... but we dont all do that... and there is very little impact from driving at 5mph along the right of way! we always jsut tell them to get stuffed and we are paying road tax to be there and if they wish to use the public footpaths rather than a right of way they wont come accross any traffic... but more dog poo... if i caught someone doing this to my disco id give them what they deserve....

 

My landcruiser may well be a toy and a daily driver but it does get the proper action it can take as well. It pulls the car trailer around and is loaded up with more tools at times than your average car owner's garage has.

It will be going over the rally stages as we marshall throughout the year which are full on, near undriveable paths at times plus it will go into fields etc for firework displays.

So if some little poorly educated oik who thinks that just beacuase it is shiny and well kept that its a chelsea tractor out there to destroy the environment then they can happily call me a b@stard to my face and see the reaction they get. Touch the car and I will happily use reasonable force to prevent them doing further criminal damage.
