Default Accident

Bugger. Just got in from recovering my Focus. Thankfully the Mrs who was driving at the time is fine. So are the people in the BMW she hit. She went around a bend to tight and went straight into the people sat at the lights It was wet and she is inexperienced.

I drove the Focus back after removing the o/s wing.
It's dark so I can't tell for sure but it needs a new wing, headlight, n/s door, bumper and fog light. Possibly wheel arch liner as well.

If it's go to the insurance company I am 99.999% sure it is beyond economical repair.
She has a

Glad no one hurt.

Buy-back, will depend on the ins. co I guess, but I don't know for certain. I had the opportunity of buying back a car that was stolen & recovered (6 months or so after date it was stolen) & it was only after I asked the question did I get the opportunity.

Parts can be bought off ebay for peanuts. It's easy to spray panels off the car & as it's your beater I doubt you care about matching up.

Any help you need give me a shout - happy to help put it back together.

Oh and btw we need some more welding doing

Well, she knows better now. That's how we learn, apparently.

Glad no-one's hurt.

If there is no movement on inner wing, then you'll be able to buy one in the correct size & colour from somewhere, so it really IS worth buggering about with. A sort of weekend & crate of beer and there is a certain satisfaction...Ought to look fine, if you're patient with the alignment.

Otherwise, cheaper to get another cheapie...

I did something similar with my X1/9

I was crashed into by a drunk driver and the car written off, once I'd thrashed out a value with the insurance, and they'd made their fianl offer, I said I'd accept it if they included the wreck along with the settlement.

They agreed and I swapped the wreck of the X1/9 for work done onthe Integrale I bought with the insurance payment.

So wait until they offer a settlement, haggle on that then come to an agreement for the amount plus the wreck (they only sell it for salvage anyway).

Bugger again, probably the best car I've ever had.
Just very grateful that she and everyone else is ok.

The irony is that I was thinking of getting rid anyway.
See - you upset her by doing that and now she has her revenge

Seriously glad everyone is OK and it is only metal damaged!
If you are happy with the car and sure it will continue to be reliable.
Let them write it off, offer silly money to buy it back and fix it.
After all it is your long standing beater

just remember they don't have to sell it back to you, and it may be their policy to refuse to anyway

glad no-one was hurt

Well it looks like the Focus is a goner.
Been looking for a replacement and decided to lease it. There are some very good lease deals on unloved cars at the moment. Narrowed it down to a Mazda3 or Punto. Mazda better specc'd with a slightly bigger engine. Punto much better looking, same design company as the Maserati more economical and cheaper to insure.

Been to see both now and got pricing from both dealers. After a challenging start where both dealers were a bit crap they both offered great deals for a cash purchase.

In fact both offered them at cost which was 3k off the price of the Punto
I placed the order with the lease company earlier primarily as all then I have to do is fuel and insure it.

I went with the Punto

Oh and the Focus is being picked up on Thursday
