Default Accord Type-R

Hi everyone...

Currently on the look out for a nippy family barge. Just wondering what the opinions are on an ATR?

As oppose to say a chipped TDi A4 or Passat?

My mate owns an ATR and a Imprezza and of the two prefers the ATR. He takes it on track days and says for a car of that size it handles and goes superbly. The car has never let him down even though he does thrash the crap out of it most of the time. Although the image is a little drab, he cant recommend it highly enough. The air filter has been changed along with a lighter fly wheel and to be honest the V-Tech comes in with such a bang it makes me slightly jealous.

I never quite got it, but it's very, very popular amongst its aficionados.

Actually, if they'd have brough the 4WS version from Japan, it would have been a killing machine not to be mentioned in the same sentence as those boring German barges.

Ask Rich UK he had one........

Generally well rated though 4 star against the 5 star impreza in a number of tests.............the Scoob will cost far more to run though

Yes I did have one and to be honest it is the one car that I regret getting rid of. In fact had I not picked the Jeep up last month I'd likely have bought another one.

In the ATR you get the comfort of a four / five seat car, yet with firmer suspension and a much sportier feel inside the cabin. It doesn't handle like an S2000, but there again it is a lot bigger!

The VTEC kick is very pronounced and whilst it is prone to a little under steer, 200bhp through the front wheel makes it a fun and enjoyable drive when you want it to be.

It wasn't too expensive to run either and on a run would get 22-26mpg. Servicing was relatively cheap, mainly because I got both cars done at the same dealer.

22-26 mpg seems a bit low, I usaully get about 320 miles to a tank in mine. Not sure what MPG that is, near 30 i would think.

It's called the Euro-R Nick.

Personally I prefer the shape we got over the JDM version.

The Japs only got one for their market because they threw their toys out the pram when they saw what Honda put together to 'sex up' the Accord.

But as usual they had to have a few more horses and a few more toys
