Default Accord Type R

I'm thinking of getting one for driving in the winter whilst the S2000 is tucked away.

1. Are they reliable with the obviously different engine?
2. Anything "interesting" or "quirky" about them?
3. Does it have a diff in the front?

Thanks in advance

A few members have or have had them - Bassoctopus, RichUK so you should get some useful info.

If you take an Accord, make it stiffer, remove 2 doors, and make it more clever, you get a Prelude.

They cost less too

They're fine in my experience - my mate had one when I had my first DC2... I drove his Accord a few times, they're very good for what they are.

He loved it, it was reliable, quick (enough for him) and would take the family.

They have an LSD as standard, I seem to remember.

You also get 4WS, which is an innovation they shouldn't have abandoned, even if people are too lazy to understand it.

But the ATR is still a bloody good car. It's not too shabby on a track either. Especially once you've melted the S2000's tyres!

H22 engine is bullet-proof, however they do burn oil so its key to keep an eye on this.

ATR's had LSD as standard.

Unless you get a type 's' lude, it'll be down on power from the ATR, UKDM lude without red-top engine is 187 BHP, a red-top one (later '99 on) is 197 whereas the ATR has 220.

I've owned my Prelude for a few years now and it is a cracking car. 4WS is an amazing parking aid. It also has cruise control, full electrics etc. They are a hell of a lot of car for the money. You can pick up a mint example for sub £2k these days.

Oh, and make sure it has a Motegi bodykit if you can.

Red top is undergeared, which helps acceleration a lot. Bit raucous over 5K though - the balancer shafts make it wonderfully smooth at low RPM; better than a lot of V6s.

Too much jargon going on here; does the Accord Type R have four wheel steering?

What's a red top?

The 'Red-top' refers to the colour of the rocker cover. AFAIK the ATR doesn''t have 4WS.
