Default Advice please

Last night a woman in a ford fusion pulled out on me from a petrol station and I ran into her in my Astra it was fairly low speed around 10 mph by the time I had braked, it was totally her fault, I have her reg number and address.

Question is where do I report it and how much time do I have, also I am worried that it will affect my no claims.

Any advice please?

If you are on the main road it will generally be accepted it was her fault - you should ALWAYS get an independant witness' details though to make sure.

Assuming you have comprehensive cover you have two choices:

1. claim off your own insurance, pay the excess, and let them and their uninsured loss recovery company argue the toss with the third party

2. claim direct off the third party's policy.

Both have their merits it really depends whether she has reported it to her insurers and if she is admitting liability.

You have six years to claim for any property damage from her policy. It's worth giving her insurer a call and seeing if an incident has been reported and under what circumstances. If they are holding their hands up get them to repair your car and give you a courtesy vehicle while it's in. If not get your own policy to respond so they can argue for you.

To your insurance. Now.

If you don't you'll have no legal protection, should the bint turn out to have no insurance or no license etc.

I'd take that as meaning she didn't have insurance. You need to tell yours immediately along with her reg details and whatever personal details she gave you and have them chase it up.

Hopefully you got her phone number or address? If so contact her. If she is playing evasive and you suspect she is one of the insurance dodging jissum monkeys out there then call your insurers with everything you know and they will do a Motor Insurance Database check to find out if she's covered.

Petrol stations have cameras, GO NOW and get the tape or a copy, it will prove it all for you.

Been and done that, there is a camera pointing to where it was but the dogs body that was there said I will have to call the manager after 7pm.

Not necessarily - the dopey bint who I ran into in Reading didn't know either, hubby dealt with "all of those things". Turned out she was with Churchill.

jonsey, just tell your insurance company the details, they'll find her insurance company. Let them deal with the legwork, that's their job.
