Default Aggressive Drivers

Now I don't know if I am stumbling across drivers with the worst attitude in the world in my area (and before anyone says anything, yes, I know I have to make allowances as I live in Gosport!) or whether people on the roads are becoming more aggressive.

On Saturday, I popped into town, parked in the local car park. A good spot next to the meter (not in the S so not unduly worried about it), albeit not a working meter.
Popped to the bank, and came back to the car. I had the car in reverse when I noticed a man walking across the back of the car to the meter. Knowing the meter was out of order, I knew he would then walk straight back across the car park, so I waited.
A woman in a Ford Focus seemed to takle exception to this and started beeping her horn, and waving her arms around for me to move out of the space! Being a bit shocked by her behaviour, I just reversed out (very closely to her front bumper) and drove off, only to wish a few feet away that I had pulled back to my original position, turned the car off and got out, just so she couldn't have the space. Why do I never think of these things quickly enough or would that have just been petty?

I don't normally get wound up with anyone, never mind other drivers, but she made me seethe for a while, so it didn't help that on the way home (only 3 or
4 miles or so) I was aggressively tailgated twice, and both times by women.... It has happened quite a lot recently, no matter what car I'm driving.

I am starting to think that there are an increasing number of angry aggressive women drivers out there, and I just don't get it.

Oh, and I would like to point out that I don't drive so slowly that they have to tailgate me......

Has anyone else noticed this?

That was not the only seething moment I had on Saturday, but the other one involved the behaviour of certain football fans, so I won;t post it here!

Wow, never had anything like that happen.

ATEOTD, you are in the space so she has to wait.

Whatever reason you are remaining in it is your business as you were there first.

It is a shame you didn't action your plan of retaining your space just to p1ss her off - seems she deserved it.

I walked off from the car mid road once - and actually got applauded from some onlookers

I just wish I had pulled back into the space. Anyone that knows me will tell you I am fairly placid, and it just took me aback. I suppose I wasn't expecting anyone to be so impatient! I just hope she enjoyed the longer walk to the nearest working ticket machine

Ah well, I have forgiven worse........ Maybe later karma will bite her on the b*m.

lots of people out there with a serious problem at the moment

I couldn't believe the blood-mindedness of several drivers at Goodwood yesterday

and yes they were all driving 4x4s or lower spec BMWs or Audis

but it was a free event......so the scummy quotient was higher than usual

my most frequent problem, and I know I go on about it, is people obstructing the outside lane

they are far more interested in blocking you than looking at the road ahead

tailgaters rarely stay on my tail long - my style is to brake VERY hard and VERY late and I can't see what's difficult about taking responsibility for leaving a safe stopping distance

oh, and I would have reversed back into that parking space as well

Very well-observed - the cars of choice of the Self-Righteous Brothers! No wonder they've got such a 'nob' image.

Its a common sight on our roads nowadays. I don't know why - I was purposely blocked by a 320d on Friday night containing what looked like a respectable couple.

He got particularly exceited when I decided I'd given him long enough and went to undertake. He of course pulls in at this point and starts waving and shouting. I ignored it all and carried on. Idiot.

...oh, and this was in my Merc, so nothing controversial....

I use the heavy braking approach - it normally scares the crap out of them.

Also braking then flooring it off into the distance tends to show them they have nowhere near the power required to trouble you

In recent years, i've just pulled to the side of the road and let them go - which i'm sure winds them up a bit

RE people in car parks, I find walking over and getting them to open the window changes their mood a fair bit. These people feel safe in the comfort of their vehicles. They wouldn't do it in the street if someone walked in front of them.
