Just read this, and while I'm not a 4x4 OR an X5 fan, the X5 is one of the better road-only SUVs.
Wouldn't you be better off with an estate though? Lower c-o-g, lighter, etc. And if you can't get a non-BM german car, the obvious answer is a Legacy, esp. if it's the Spec-B!!!

Heh, like the description of ACS...
The weapon of choice selector has indeed moved away from the X5 and is now considering a Galant VR4 (Legnum import will do fine), the 3.0R Spec B mentioned above and...
Hold on to your hats now...
The Mondeo ST220 estate. Drove one of these things once and believe it or not, I ed it. Really, really great car to drive (for FWD), with an awesome sounding engine and decent punch. A bloke in a hatchback version once gave me a good run for my money up the A429, it wasn't that far off the S2000.
Only thing is, they hold no value and are as thirsty as sin. I do not care about the "but it's only a Mondeo" comments as Mondeos are excellent cars for what they are and if people want to think that of a 220bhp estate, that's fine by me... I'm sure a few hot hatch/TDi yobs will be surprised.
There are two Performance Blue ones and one Panther Black one on AT now for around

Agree with the Mondeo choice, surprisingly easy cars to like.
Doubt they'll hold their value too well though, 'premium' Fords have never been too good at holding their value and the green propaganda is starting to be believed by the brainwashed masses, which means the bigger engined variants may not be in so much demand as 'green' becomes fashionable.
