Default Approved Used BMW

Last March I purchased a fairly old (04 plate) low mileage 318i touring in excellent condition from a BMW dealer in Glasgow. Price was about £800 more than from an independent/private and the car was 200 miles away but I decided to go for the security of a dealer purchase.

I've had a few things go on the car in the time I've owned it. An airbag sensor, the cd changer and a traction control sensor. All have been fixed quickly and with no hassle to me at all. The car has always been immaculately cleaned inside and out on collection and I've had some nice courtesey cars - 330d convertible being the nicest This is from my local dealer, not the dealer I bought the car from.

Yesterday the car failed it's MOT on a brake pipe and suspension bushes - both of which would be considered wear and tear on any other warranty I've had. No problems - all changed within the day, free of charge.

This on a car which cost me £6400

My only regret is that to extend the warranty again is £427 + excess of £100 on each claim. Or over £500 with no excess. Which unfortunately on a car of this nature I'm not sure I can justify. Plus servicing was planned to be at a local known BMW specialist which rules out the warranty too.

I will definitely by another approved used BMW in the future though

The BMW dealer network and mini for that matter is really good. My Dad bought a used 1 series from a dealer and had a few problems which the warranty sorted. My fiance bought an older mini cooper on a 54 plate and she has been really well looked after by the dealer.

You pay a premium with BMW but the products are good quality and I do like taking the Mini out sometimes it's a good laugh

I agree with you on this. We have a 118d and a Mini Cooper S and i've got nothing but good things to say about our local dealer (Bowker BMW Preston if you want to know). Everything is sorted out quickly, for free (under warranty) and with a smile.

It's almost tempting to stump up for the warranty, the service and the warranty being so good. Apparently suspension components are all guaranteed up to 60k miles if under BMW warranty - even on an 8 yr old car

Can you stump up for a similar car from them (possibly hard to find) and get the excess free warranty from them again?

I found the BMW warranty on my old Z4 Coupe to be really good too - had a couple of things fixed with no issues at all.

Testing out the approved used VW warranty for the first time next Tuesday on my new Edition 30 GTI as the alarm sound isn't working. When the alarm goes off the lights flash but no sound comes out.

Good to know - they didn't get to where they are today by badge snobbery alone. It was by careful strategy.

Just make sure you keep the warranty running!

I've been impressed so far and the service from two dealers I use has been impeccable .

It might make sense for me to go indy when it becomes more than transport, I'll miss the hassle free nature of it.

Another way to think if it is £500 to have another hassle free year. Cheaper than buying a new car. Still mulling this over. Depends how big the next service is (975 miles left until that)

Can you purchase the extended warranty from any BMW dealer and if so do their prices vary by dealership as per buying a Honda extended warranty?
