Default Audi A6 Avant

I need a beater, and one of these has come up for sale locally - I'm going to see it Thursday. Anyone know anything about these, any thoughts?

This is the huge seven seater version and apparently a rather nice car generally.

According to the owner, it's a 1998, 2.6 petrol manual in metallic green. Mostly full, mostly audi service history. Mileage should be low assuming it's originally an island car. Has a tow bar from a previous owner pulling a horse (presumably in a box ) Apparently vgc to immaculate.

I can't trace any 2.6 ever having been put in these, so I think he may have that wrong (which is not reassuring).

Only asking

Re: the engine size - I think there was a 2.7 which might answer the question.

Other than that, no previous experience from me, sorry!

The A6 C4 had a 2.6 option (150bhp) and production ended in 97/98... so hopefully it's not a late C4 model??

The C5 launched in 98 and had a 2.4 and 2.8 na petrol option, the 2.7T is quite powerful with 230 bhp.

I think there's might have been a 2.6 on the previous model but they stopped them in 1996 I think.

Engines for 1997-2005 are 1.8T, 1.9, 2.4, 2,7T, 2.8, 4.2 and 4.2TT.

Sounds like the C4 version... I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 2.6 wasn't Audi's finest... The same engine also went in the Audi Coupe/Cabrio of the same era... I think...

I had a 2.7T Quattro Sport (250bhp) in the later version and it was a fine motorway cruiser, quiet, refined, went OK, had plenty of grip but felt numb to drive
