Average Speed Cameras
Is there some trick to this I don't know? (I remember folk used to say you could confuse the cameras by switching lanes).
I drove from Glasgow to Dundee and back (via ST Andrews) yesterday and on the way I passed through at least two sections of road where average speed cameras were in operation with the speed limit reduced to 40 mph.
In these areas I sat in the inside lane with the cruise control on sitting at 40 mph.
However, I lost count of the amount of folk that seem to completely ignore these 40 mph zones and simply fly past doing 60/70 at least.
Am I missing something? Are these all just dummy cameras? Does no one ever get a ticket from them?

To quote QI, "Nobody Knows". All I do know is that the lane-changing idea was quickly noticed and rectified, very early on. I've seen people tail-gaiting trucks to stop the cameras seeing a plate, but I guess it's down to local knowledge as to whether they are actually recording and subsequently prosecuting. The ones at Glasgow Airport are not entirely necessary. I came through there at 10mph this morning due to volume of traffic in both directions...

On the same journey I also drove past two gatsos and two mobile speed camera vans.
I noticed the fixed position cameras and one of the vans in plenty of time but with the second van I think I was doing 80 or just under when I spotted it before braking a little.
Fingers crossed I was still within acceptable limits

There is a bit of local knowledge in some set ups, ie the one nearest me on the M90, if I join at a certain junction I know there is only one camera before the end of the roadworks so no average speed reading is possible, so it's yeeha up that stretch. I have noticed though some drivers seem to treat them like gatsos and only slow down when passing under the cameras, hence over 800 caught in a week here.
It dose work, got caught by average speed camera on the m4 from junction 14-17 towards Castle Combe years ago.... Just like everyone thought it just there to fool you.... It really wasn't!
Not sure how much over the average is the limit tho, I was over 58mph so maybe that's was abit much.
