Gad, the thottle is just stiffer than i'm used to rather than sticking. Not sure if these are electronic dbw?

Good idea on the Audi actually - worth a punt on Ebay.

'99 is a bit early for drive by wire I would have thought

surely cable (which is wire, but ykwim)

and grease required

I would agree, i had a 320d for a while before the VW that had done 80k but drove like it was new but the throttle is stiffer than some cars. It could be that its floor mounted although so is my Passat and thats not really stiff. I think they make great cars for the money and there are lots of independents who can work on them without having to resort to a dealer. My mate ran an S reg E46 323i (one of the early ones) and had no problems in a year. He bought it for
