The Beater thread
I haven't got a clue what you want that other bollox for
I dislike gauges, real or otherwise, apart from speed, revs and oil and water temp
FIAT didn't fit a water temp gauge and the cars like to run at around the 85 to 90 mark before the thermostat opens, the fan then cuts in and brings it back to 85ish ... but overheat and a hole in your coolant bottle are only about 30 degrees away and the idiot light only comes on 20 degrees before that
Water coolant temperature is an utter must on these and since i'm tight, a free gauge via the OBDII port and no extra holes cut into the coolant pipework seems a sensible way to do it.

Good to see you're enjoying tinkering with it. When I had a beater it was for a commute and was boring but the traffic on that commute and the route deemed that irrelevant really, wanted comfort and mpg
This is a short burst on the A1 and then it's cross county on the A507 and that's got corners and roundabouts and stuff - as you say, if I was using large portions of motorway / dual carriageway then i'd want something bigger.

I think that's me done with the interior, got some new lights and footwell / boot lights to wire in but that's a job for the weekend.
Using DashCommand with the little Bluetooth dongle has removed the need to fit extra gauges.

Still unreliable, even with the six minor gauges plus the two big ones. But it looked good - though one's hands/steering wheel obscured most of them.
Damnit UF you've got me thinking about beaters now after reading your thread
I don't do a lot of miles commuting (14 a day) but after nearly three years together I've started to feel a bit precious about dragging my S to filthy industrial wasteland every day. It's only a matter of time before a dopey trucker converts my convertible to a single seater.
£600 (potentially recoverable after re-sale) and £200 insurance sounds tempting although I see you're starting to fettle a bit too much, 'twas supposed to be a winter beater!
your S will be getting jealous of all that attention.
