That's only theoretical figures on that site isn't it?

I don't think there's a one stop shop for figures. You need to get a few examples to get a general idea on performance. i.e. some figures you need to butcher the clutch/gearbox to get the figures whereas some are easily achieveable. Up to you how you interpret them if trying to ascertain what sort of performance a given car has.

Personally, the figures to look for are:
bhp/tonne
0-100 (although 10 or 20-100 would be better)
30-70.

0-60 is useless really, only gives you a rough idea.

100-0 is really useful, too.

nice one moggy, that is particulaly handy.

My dad is looking for a moderately nippy automatic diesel estate car so that is very handy.

I think he is leaning towards an A4 3.0tdi

60-100 is also useful

stacks of cars perform similarly 0-60

the faster you are travelling, the more you see the real performance

for example plenty of Imprevos will do 0-60 in 5 secs - quick

but they also do 0-100 in 13 secs - not so quick

One of the reasons that the audi caught my eye was the pace at higher (overtaking) speeds.

In a blast from the toll gates to 100 an a4 3.0tdi was left for dust between 0 and 60 by my brothers impreza but after that I made little or no headway. Seeing as the audi does about twice the MPG I was pretty impressed.

Cleaarly in the bendy bits the subaru would be a lot quicker but all my dad does is pootle about in trafic and blast up and down motorways...
