Best source for performance figures?
some of the modern diesels are much less of a compromise than they used to be but you still need to beware of narrow power bands and potentially high maintenance and purchase costs
i have a diesel because it does 50+mpg and i do a lot of miles. without the miles i just wouldnt bother tbh as the higher mpg is offset by higher fuel cost and higher purchase cost.

Cleaarly in the bendy bits the subaru would be a lot quicker but all my dad does is pootle about in trafic and blast up and down motorways...
