Or book a taxi ride to teh middle of nowhere in the pissing rain!

They are proper big estates though.

People cannot seem to distinguish D from E segment platforms:

You can dismiss the C-Class since its load area is barely C-segment, let alone D!

-do- the languid and mundano.

You might go off the wall with a Mitsubishi Galant/Smegma VR4 thingy.

When did they stop doing the pug 505 estate??

Maybe too old for your criteria.

Honda Accord
Citroen C5

Rover 75

Porsche will probably make an estate car soon
nothing wrong with the 75 in this context

space overrides performance

I liked my Omega but just want to consider some alternatives

I don't want old, just because of reliability and lack of creature comforts

but I wouldn't buy new because it's a waste of money

and why wreck an expensive car by carrying crap in it?

The C5 estate is huge, comfy, in top trim level (just looked it up - 'Exclusive') it's quite a nice place to be (if a bit plasticky) and it's dirt cheap these days.

Depends whether you can live with the downmarket image though.

there are cars that have an image and those that have none

I'd place most large estates in the latter category

in this category, given the intended use, I'd consider a Skoda if it was big enough (they aren't)

don't forget, my last two big estates were a Scorpio and an Omega
