Big(ish) estates
I think a 10 year old E220 CDI or E320 CDI would be perfect. Amazing residuals, great build quality... hardly likely to loose a penny over a years driving. Huge space in the rear too, hearse like!
My last three cars have been Volvo T5 estates. two 850 T5s and my current V70 T5 (which I've had 4 years) All have been autos.
The current V70 is clever, very, very comfortable and quick & effortless for a big car. If you have kids, the factory 3rd row of seats are V useful and fold quickly into the floor.
Just one point though, the turning circle on the current model is like that of a double-decker bus!

I'm with Nick Graves, but get yourself a CX Familie or Safari. 7 seats of big, Ecto 1-style, er... style. But I suppose the 10 year barrier rules that out.
I wouldn't look beyond the Mondeo TDCi estate if you're just looking for a load lugger that you can biff about a bit. Great car. Still loving my Fords...
