Removing weight and adding ballast is the best way to go. Also remember that the higher up in the car the weight is, the more effect it has on handling.

You can add the ballast lower down in the car, and move it about to suit your handling preferences.

Have you looked at removing stuff like the heater matrix and any of the unnecessary wiring, it's amazing how much wires can weigh when they're added up.

Yeah. BMW's have massive wiring looms, particularly for speakers, boot releases and crap like that.

Good work fella, I'm watching with interest.

Now, there's a thing.

We removed a load of wiring a few weeks ago.

The indicators then only worked if the lights were on. The fog lights stopped working and the side indicators went kaput.

Problem is, with the wiring, is separating wheat from chaff. I'm not that skilled to do that.

I like Mikes idea of wiring the side indicators up to the front ones....

A cage should help the handling too, it's like an uber strut brace.

Well, Lee looks worried everytime I point at something in the car/under the bonnet and ask what's that - I have a penchant for removing unknown parts.

I removed two of the front speakers at the track.

We need some kind of horn for MOT. I think there's an alarm siren somewhere though.

We'd like to remove the window mechs, the problem is that the front ones ara elec and I'm not sure a manual one is a straight swap.

Yes-roll cage will add weight, but there are E30's out there with roll cages that are <1000kgs.

replacement seats should save 20-30kg. bonnet pins should save another 15 or so.

There's a trade off though. To race in the ToyoTyres champ many parts have to be standard - e.g IIRC the glass windows cannot be replaced with plastic ones that are lighter, and the car has to be no lighter than 95% of it's original kerbweight, although you are allowed to add ballast.
you guys are mad

I have a picture of this trail of parts from the paddock to the start line with you in the drivers sets and Lee walking along behind collecting them look bemused!

Shame I missed 27th

I may have a couple of kevlar Cobra Imola S seats that would fit if you are interested. They are too wide for the S
