After initially thinking it would only take a couple of hours to fit the seats I got home after 5. The harnesses were easier to fit than I thought they would be though even though I got one screwed up and it took ages trying to re-thread it back together. Pig of a job all said and done.

Looks good though

Battery is certainly now on the list. As is replacing the steering wheel.
Next day out is going to be interesting.

Clutch slave cylinder has been replaced and now it goes into gear and stays in.

Moggy,

I don't think that we have met, unless it was at a Hants S2000 meeting. That said, I used to work on a couple of race cars in the 750 formula of the 750MC, so it's possible that our paths may have crossed there. That's certainly where I got all of the ideas in the earlier post from.

How is this project going? Interesting read - I'm tempted to follow suit although a stripped out mx5 is the most tempting at the moment - just love that top down action

It's going fantastic. Absolutely love it. Would be out every weekend if time would allow.

We did Anglesey on Saturday-weather was appaling but the car was a trouper.

We have not done anything to it since putting the seats in the car.

Apart from selling the old stereo out of the car on Egay for

I will indeed - sounds like you're having a blast!
I love having a project like this to get my teeth into - can't quite bring myself to mod my s2000 - just a bit too precious about it as it's my first nice car.

Hence the idea of a track day beater
What made you choose the e30? I've been chatting with my brother about it and we made a brief list:
nissan 200sx / 300zx
mitu FTO
mx5
BMW e30
honda prelude / crx
lexus is 200
merc e190
volvo 850 saloon (?FWD)

Not sure where to go from there as clearly test driving them all is not an option! At the moment I'm just trawling the web looking for ideas.

You can test drive ours

Many reasons, not in any particular order:

Driveability - rwd, lots of feedback
cheap to buy
reasonably quick, circa 170bhp standard
reasonably light-circa 1000kg of fully stripped
cheap and readily available parts-both new & 2nd hand
a championship we can enter
a plethora of track knowledge out there, including an excellent website.
a solid (touch wood) engine block
reasonably simplistic setup-little electronics that can go wrong.

The negatives i can immediately think of against, say, an MX5 are that it doesn't have a tin roof (not very useable in all weathers-believe me you enjoy the warmth and dryness on a day like saturday was), relatively more expensive to replace parts and relatively slow as standard.
