Fair point!

But youu forgot cheap and that the E36 is twice the car that is the overrated pile of excrement called the E30 (M version excepted), for which people are asking totally stupid money.

E30 fanboys are mug punters personified (after Escort buyers).

I have grander plans and it needs to go so it will be one of those we look back on when they're £20K and say "I struggled to flog mine for three grand".

Like, err, Capris, Escorts and other old tat.

Part ex against a classsic I fancy might be the easiest option - might amount to all of 5%.

I think this hankering for run of the mill metal is a fad. £30k escrotes are a joke.

There's an F40 in Grey Paul at the mo. That was good when it was built.

Saw an R8 V10, £120k. Comparedto the Porsche stuff it looked cheap.

I chose between a house and an F40 when both were circa £250K.

Chose the house and I'm happy it was the right move.

There are a couple of classics out there that I would pay £50K and £75K for but only special examples.

I've seen R8 V10s for less than £70K - I am a fan of vhp moderns and I think that's where the value is.

I know a bit about cars and there are some shocking quality 'restos' out there.

There are some totally overlooked classics out there still available for buttons.

But anything received-wisdom is now stupid money.

There's a very low-mileage NA2 same age as mine up for 85 large!

The F40 would have done rather well. I casually pondered both CSL and F430 but hindsight is ultra hd

The current market is daft and i doubt robust

I almost went into serious debt to try for ex-Car magazine Ian Fraser's Stratos a few years ago; Omicron engineering were selling it for him.

I ocassionally wonder 'If only...'

After the last month or so looking at high end stuff I'm convinced the market (truly stratospheric stuff apart) has peaked.

Whether the bubble now bursts or slowly deflates we shall have to wait and see.
