Same for the big end bearings if you believe all the scaremongering on the internet... We'll see
Bit more resitance in places with the worn cogs maybe? So it doesn't go through the throttle % range smoothly?
All sorted now
car definitely 'feels' better. Whether that's just placebo or feelgood based on lack of breakdown i dont know
i cant see how a worn cog would affect it much as the whole thing is spring loaded against the motor and so as the throttle bodies so there wouldnt ever be play imo?
Anyway.. onwards. Next sunny day is photo time

the big end thing.. I wonder if its a thrash from cold or hammered car issue?
one went on cutters recently, plus that dude who went in evo had the issue but iirc he maybe tracked his a lot
its one to keep in mind but spending £1500 on new bearings seems overkill to me
the TAs will fail imo. a survey I did on cutters showed 50% failure on 08 cars back in 2015 but doing what Rog is doing, swapping the gears to see if it prevents the issue, costs £300 so seems worthwhile to me

Done swapped my throttle actuator cogs at 26.5k miles.
The old ones were showing signs of approaching failure; 2 or 4 teeth at 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock were beginning to wear and were starting to look a bit like a hook shape not a nice even sided tooth. My Indy reckons the electronics are ok. I will wait and see. He picked up a few earners e.g. spark plug tips wearing thin so replaced - don't want bits falling into the cylinders; diff oil change overdue; engine air intake O rings leaking. I asked him if he was Richard Feynman's son and got a blank look
My Indy is of the "ain't broke don't fix" school but for less than 1/3rd of my first major service bill I feel this was a worthwhile piece of prevention. I couldn't stand driving about waiting for the metaphorical sword of Damocles to shit the fan.
edit: I had the software all brought up to date plus had the GTS DCT upgrade applied, every few hundred milliseconds on a gear change counts for us real road warriors But I couldn't help smiling at the way BMW can fix the infamous and extremely well publicised security issue but not the utterly basic bad choice of material with their fucking throttle actuator gears

I think its the right course of action, it may prevent your electronics getting fried but regardless fitting superior parts in place of stuff that is showing significant wear over a relatively low mileage can only be a good thing.
Mine were in very poor condition too, more miles than you but I reckon they were close to failure as per that pic i posted up there somewhere /\
The plugs thing was mildly interesting to a curious mind, they looked a bast to swap so i didn't bother as I've never had a car need plugs after 30 odd k however i found a claim they'd been done in 2012 when i bought it
i checked the book and they record basic info in there as well as date and mileage
10.2008 - 1,209m - Oil change
09.2010 - 11,481m - Oil, Micro filter, Brake fluid, Air filter
06.2012 - 16,817m - Oil, Micro, Plugs, Brake fluid, Mobility system? (purchase)
06.2014 - 26,514 - Oil, Brake fluid, Microfilters, Air filter
12.2014 - Battery
06.2015 - c30k m - Oil (DIY)
10.2015 - Rear discs and pads (DIY)
06.2016 - 34,011 - Oil, Microfilter, Brake fluid
The BMW service always based on shoving my key into their reader and taking what they advised (i believe the car gives some info).
i'd also opt for more regular oil change based on the £100 DIY cost, that's due in June ish i guess. She's at c38k now i think. I find it uncomfortable that these cars have the odd engine issue and potentially 20k service intervals.

I'm going out on a limb and saying the new TA has now bedded in and passed it's infant mortality point.

came off my (steep drive today, a little clunk), drove round the block, felt odd, came back, smoke coming off drivers front tyre..
found this
and this
ouch..
the car is so low and stiff as stock and the steering is a bit vague but i should have followed my hunch, i got out on the drive and looked at the tyre. doh. that tyre is now proper'd..
new spring on thw way, new rubber to follow.
harsh considering i dont use it

Apropos of nowt, took Carol's Smart to our local indy. MOT, two new rear tyres, 'B' (expensive) service, all under £400 incl VAT.
I had checked tread depth all was well rears 3mm fronts 4mm seven years old 20k miles. Mentioned to him probably replace rears next time. He rang mid morning found a 15mm tear down to the core on the rear near side. MOT fail. Unlike my complete twat of a village garage man who had been told to replace the side light BEFORE the MOT on my S (which he didn't so hence the first fail ever) the guy rang mid morning to see if I wanted one or two new tyres (£42.24 each!!) and replaced them before doing the MOT.
Guess where my next MOT will be done for the S

its good to find a reliable place, i think there are plenty about. it's never dealers though, one of the lads on cutters said they charge almost £200 an hour now, my dentist charges that and i dont think those spanner demons are getting paid it
i'll replace one side, it's clearly an impact caused a fracture but i've been unlucky where, ie in 2 spots. it did about 2.5k last year so, as ever, was planning on selling. I had to drive the kumkwat today, had enough so need a replacement for that and this that i dont despise driving. must have grunt, must not weigh 8 metric tonnes.
