Default Car Badges

I followed a new Fiesta in traffic this morning. It beats me how such a nicely designed car can find itself laden with junk.

On the rear hatch alone the car featured ye olde Ford logo above the number plate, a trendy script for 'Fiesta' on the lower right and further badges for 'TDCi' and 'Zetec' on the left hand side, in differing typographic styles.

By comparison the numerous BMWs in the traffic illustrated how model designation should be done - simple, classy and distinctive.

They did go a bit too far when they removed the indicators.

I always enjoy looking at the advertising people put up with on their cars.

Dealer sticker in the rear window, dealer details on the number plate and sometimes even a dealer name on the rear panel.

Never understand why people advertsie for garages for free.

The one that used to drive me apoplectic was Crown Honda; they used to stick a little gold crown on every Honda they sold. It was so unbelievably tacky and pretentious. It was almost casually racist, since at the time, the Prelude was the car of choice of North London's Jewish princesses...

I refused delivery of the S2000 until they had replaced my private plate with their garage badge on it to a plate with no garage advertising. Apparently they had to make a special vist to Halfrauds - saved me a few pence as well as making a a point.

Cooper Garages of Mini-Cooper fame used to apply a gold oakleaf badge to their new cars, & the Hendy Group insisted on sticking tacky silver plastic HENDY badges to every Ford they sold.
Flipping cheap advertising and using their customers for their own selfish ends.
