Car Brands
That's exactly my point. If I had the money for an R8, I'd buy a 911 or Ferrari or Aston or McLaren or anything else. But for thirty seconds, hearing that lovely noise and watching the flames and glowing, it seems that the car has a soul. Then you're back in the real world and buy something else. Unless you're a footballer or other person completely lacking in imagination.
Noble M600 would be the real choice of originality. Although I saw a nice R8 yesterday - I'd definitely have one to mooch about in.
I think the Dacia and Kia adds winout for me. Basically, buy our car and get hastle free/cheap motoring.
Alas, too many people care what car they are seen in. The Mrs is giving me grief because she now has to drive to work in a Diesel Mondeo and she doesn't like it compared to her VW Beetle.
The Mondeo is faster, more economical, more spacious, has cruise control, aircon, handles better, has 6 gears, cheaper to service, easier to work on and tows a trailer very well

Fact is, she buys into the marketing
because she wants a Juke.
"or McLaren or anything else"
i don't have the budget so I haven't looked at the competitors. But I wouldn't particularly want a car liable to break. Plus the M600 is in a higher price bracket.
I'm not looking for originality. I'm looking for soul. The Audi has none.

Soul? Come on, that is complete
usually reserved for describing a defect to make it seem positive. The Audi looks great, sounds great, built very well, and is reasonably quick. Ok, it's 4wd, but that's a small price to pay.
Oh yes - the Incest Information Exchange.
Audi's is quite interesting, since it's been over the factory gates for a very long time. Slightly sinister, since Arbeit macht Frei dates from the same period.
The others all reek of:
There's too much coke and too much smoke
Look what's going on inside you

Piech has ordered that to be included in the new model. It's called the Audi R-Soul.
Machines don't have "souls" any more than we do.
There is an intangibile art to making a machine feel as if it's eager and almost 'alive', but that is our primitive perception. In the same way, some people's synapses fire in a way that create character, whilst others appear to have none. So maybe 'character' would be a better anthropomorphism.
But the whole point of this marketing shi' is to disguise the fact that since cars have convergently evolved, there really is precious little difference between most of them any more.

Then you get things like the Aygo, 107 and C1; the IQ and the Cygnet; the GT86 and BRZ; forget being different, it's the same car with a different badge!
I do hate talk of 'soul' in cars.
I'm an atheist so I don't even believe my misses has a soul. She has a fine rack and like's experimenting in the bedroom. Neurosis forgiven.
A car either has tangible attributes like power, handling, comfort, aesthetics, reliability and value or it doesn't.
An Alfa looks gorgeous and sounds sublime, but get's a big fat meh for everything else.
'But it has soul and passion!'
Balls it does, it has it's entire design budget blown on aesthetics at the expense of real engineering.
Modern homogenisation of cars is great for them though, sharing platforms with manufacturers who know how to build cars and sticking pretty body panels on them should in theory give the best of both worlds. But not soul.
