I've got hill start assist on my Z4MC even though it has a normal, manual handbrake. It's very good.

You are supposed to use the left foot on the brake (it takes a lot of practice if it's trained to the heft of a clutch pedal!) like a kart and it's the only way you can get satisfactory throttle-steer with a torque converter transmission so it oughtn't be an issue. But most people don't do that, so it is.

The other issue is rather sudden deceleration can catch them in the wrong gear, leading to a succession of learner-like changes. But every transmission has its drawbacks; the biggest here are the expensive fluid changes and that VAG do not cover the failed solenoids. Or FREDs. Or turbos. Or pumps. And rattling wastegates are a 'characteristic' not a fault...It's not DSGs per se.

Actually, it's that multiplied by the mindless worship by battery thinkers and the conspiracy of silence of the hacks of anything VAG that's really the issue, here.
An owner I know reports that if you use the brake and accelerator at the same time, the engine goes into "safe" mode, whatever the hell that is! It may not apply to moving off, though.
My old Leon would do that, if you try and brake and hold the throttle down it cuts power and then doesn't bring it back for a few seconds - i never liked it as it prevented heel and toe. I assume it's switchable on the ECU somewhere but you need the fully registered version of VAGCOM to talk it out of that mode.

Oh, FFS!

What a pointless heap of crap. I'm sorry I was so harsh about modern Civics, now.
