Default Car keys

After just reading about someone getting their car stolen I just wondered what the general feeling was about what to do with car keys at night time.

Is it better to leave them where they can be easily found, or do you lock them away and risk a beating for yourself or a loved one if they can't find them.

I would take them into the bedroom with me....

But then I hear what you say, thinking about it I guess I would prefer to wake up in the morning to find the car missing than to wake up in the middle of the night with a masked thug standing next to me.

I guess out of view from the window is the most important part.

Some people would pay a lot of money for that

I hide mine. I'd relish the fight of them trying to get the keys off me. Even if they had a knife. I might die, but then they'd get done for murder.

I think I'd rather just have my car stolen than die in a knife fight. Even if they got done for murder I can't say it would make me feel any better. What with having the little stigma of being dead and all that.

My keys stay in the pocket of whatever jacket I was last wearing when I was last out.

I do have the perimeter alarmed though so if the door or windows get opened the alarm rings - figure they wouldnt step more than one foot in the place as it went off..

NSX and S2000 keys can't be accessed at night, if they are willing to stay until morning then they'd best put the kettle on.

Alternatively they are welcome to take the ITR or Prelude, that's what insurance is for. However keys for these are not left lying around either.

I would never intentionally leave keys somewhere where they can easily be found.

Don't expect it to be too long before the insurance companies exclude claims for keys left somewhere they can easily be found. Moral hazard.
