This is the biggest downside I could see with a lease; if your personal circumstances change part way through and you have to give the car back, it costs a fortune to get out of the lease.

I bought mine for that reason.

The monthly payment on the lease was lower, but I preferred the flexibility with the Merc Agility deal.

Depends on mileage........

That'll be 10K. Ling is offering the Citigo for £117 on a 3+35 so it sounds not bad.

I mean, let's face it; a new city car for 24 months for the cost of a full tank of squirt on a proper car, it's pretty good*. That was like the HP on a FIAT Uno back in the '80s. OK, I mean you owned the Uno. Or what was left of it...which meant you could only trade it in against another FIAT. So they had you over a barrel.

*If you can stand driving the thing.

Yep, sorry, forgot the mileage bit....as Nick says, 10k per year.

The combination of not too much money per month and just a 24 month contract appealed to me.

You might lose your job.
Would it stop you buying a house?

"You will pay by way of agreed damages all rentals which would have been payable for the remainder of
the Period of Hire less a discount (calculated separately on each rental) for the acceleration of payment
at a rate of 5% per annum. If and when the sale proceeds of the Vehicle are received by us, credit will be
given to you for any amount by which the net sum (after deduction of all costs of recovery, repair and
disposal) exceeds the Residual Value"

MB small print.
Plus you pay for any unreasonable damage to the machinery.

Best plan is to slope it off to a mate or family with a cash sweetener.
Or simply ensure you have a contingency plan.
I can afford to pay mine off in full (14k or so) or my wife can take it on, should the worst happen.

Buying is more unpredictable tbh.
When manufacturers bring out new models it hurts.
When the market shifts it hurts or we have that third recession, it hurts.
Dealing with time wasting cocks trying to sell the thing, hurts.
If you borrow 30k to buy a car, the interest hurts (and you lose even more than renting).
That's several good reasons not to buy cars right now, unless you have huge cash power, or are keeping it more than five years.

The Business deal is only £97 a month so add VAT and it looks like a good deal potentially?

Ring them, there is likely a deal on as they don't give the numbers right now:

Fuck that - it's only £255 plus the dreaded (plus £1,500 down!) for a Hachiroku. You don't even have to be miserable driving round!

Think that's what I was paying on a balloon on an MX-5 in about '95! I used to like balloons because you could keep it. But you couldn't get 1/2 the dreaded back in those days, which makes a lot of difference.
