would be interesting to see how much damage was seen as 'uneconomical repair' on a 6 month old £50k motor.....
Internal smoke or flood damage can easily cause a cat-d write off.
The smell of the water or smoke can be very hard to shift even if you rip out and replace all the carpets and headliners and seats.

Cat D is also stolen/recovered. Maybe it was stolen, paid out for it, then recovered slightly damaged (my old TT was like this and the damage was literally some scuffing to the wheels and a new lock set).

maybe

in which case you'd think the ad would say so, wouldn't you?

my betting is that an enquiry would elicit the info that "it was smashed up, but not badly and repaired by my mate under the arches using ebay sourced parts"

"Value... It's unwise to pay too much, but it's unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder, it's well to add something to the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better."

John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)

Pointless buy IMO, the downside risk far outweighs the upside.

It won't be bought by an enthusiast. It'll be bought by someone who wants to pose.

If you were seriously interested is there not a report you can get of why its been Cat D'ed??

I know someone who bought a Landy (in Oz) that had been written off due to flood damage. The vehicle was absolutely fine only issues left were non functional Stereo and a slight damp smell occasionally, but then it was no performance car like the E90 M3.....

Flood damage is categorised differently. Lost turn up around racetracks.
