It is rarely acceptable to jump a red light. There are exceptions e.g. driving through Kidderminster at 4.00am and the lights by Sainsbury's are Red and there's no one about - and you can see this in all directions - I don't wait for the lights to cycle through to green.

Otherwise its a no no.

Another thing that boils my piss, temporary traffic lights. I hate when you're sitting in a line of traffic, waiting to go, and then the light turns green on your side but there is still a flow of traffic coming through. Sheer arrogance of those involved to continue through on red on the opposing side causing others to move.

Lets be honest, if they continue in the line they are in, you can't exact stop them as they come through so you are force to wait until the selfish come through first.

Traffic signal cameras don't flash when the light is amber.

They take 2 pictures.

The first picture is taken to show that the offender crosses the white line under a red signal and the second is taken to show that the vehicle continues across the junction.

So, this muppet's excuse for "sneeking through on an amber" doen't hold up to scrutiny.

Advise him to go to court and argue his case if he wants to.

Hopefully the magistrates will be having a bad day and will give him what he deserves.

More than 3 points and a hefty fine for taking the piss.

They'll do you for crossing the line though. I got done for this a while ago. I missed a red and then slammed my brakes on when I realised my mistake. I was across the line, but not over the junction - TS10 and 3 points.

I tried writing to them but they threatened court and I decided to take the punishment First points in 19 years of driving.

The problem is that because the Gov't has got all childish about it with their silly cameras, no-one has any respect for the rule any more.

Especially in London, where the lights are deliberately phased so that a journey to the centre that could be done in 1/2 hour now takes three times as long.

It's almost impossible NOT to be caught in box junctions, etc, due to the 'sheer volume of traffic' and the increasing numbers of dithering foreigners who cannot adopt the correct London driving style; fast-decisive.

As for Bender Buses; deliberately put there by a deranged car- and freedom-hater. The reason SUVs are popular in London is so you can wind down the window and twat the driver, without having to alight from your vehicle.

I work in Liverpool St. vicinity and almost daily (when I'm in the country) walking to the office I see cops ticketing cyclists. Hopefully it'll eventually work.
If they started confiscating and crushing their bikes it would stop overnight

I usually find that racing through the junction nicely crushes the bike anyway and saves the police a job entirely.

The offence is technically complete when you cross the white line.

The second picture is used as further evidence.

Sometimes there may be mitigating circumstances, for example, the road was wet, there was a vehicle following very closely behind making it dangerous for me to stop abruptly, etc.

It isn't a threat of taking you to court.

It's how the system works and it is your right and the only opportunity you will have to fight your corner by attending magistrates court and presenting them with the evidence.

The magistrates will then give their decision on the matter and can sometimes be very sympathetic and understanding, sometimes not.

It is a lottery, but by no means all cases end with a conviction.
