Nick Graves'll be on in a minute for a definitive answer! I think he's a BIG LJKS fan...

Clarkson, while I find him amusing, is no Setright.

Setright was an engineer, Clarkson is a self-confessed buffon when it comes to making cars do what they do (at least he admits to it, many don't and then come out with such howlers as wold make old LJK spin in his grave).

Different products of different eras, both have merit however.

I thought you said "boffin" for a second, then realised you meant "buffoon"

No, I meant Buffon, it's foreign for, something. About cars, probably.

I'm such a buffon

No, his younger brother, Mario - he was a famous Italian motoring journalist who didn't know anything about car mechanics.

or car electrics, presumably?

Clarkson's column is the only reason I read the Driving section of the Sunday Times (or whatever its called these days - "In gear"? ).

My LJKS comparison was more to do with a mutual dislike of diesels, most definitely not their writing styles.
