Default Clio V6

Ok, lets get one thing clear - I have a hatred for French cars, and as an engineer, im not sure if I could buy one. It would be akin to being a hypocrite

But....

The Clio V6 has always been on my tick list, and ive ticked nearly all the cars I have really wanted and can afford. When I was younger, I saw a scoob and managed to buy one, same with the Integra R and the S2000. This is one of the other few that used to drop my jaw.

I mean just look at the styling of it. Bloody awesome. I suspect its a marmite thing, but this really is my cup of tea.

Has anyone owned one? Im not sure im brave enough to buy one (and the Evo is staying for a few months yet ) Allegedly the MK2 is the one to go for due to handling. Not sure how true this is. I suspect I would be disappointed all round, not as good handling / grip as the EVO, not as fun to drive as the S, crap interior etc...

And yes, I know, its French and not that fast, and its wrong etc...

It's one of them cars you buy because of what it is not how good it is, looks awesome as well

I know two people who have them, both crashed them as well in the wet but coming from the S2000 i'm sure you'll have more of an idea on how to control it and how carefull you need to be etc.

They also sound good, might be worth owning one for abit but i'm not sure what depreciation is like?

Cheers Rick. The Mk2 are still pricey, the Mk1 can be had for 10k ish! You would think that this is the price they will flatten off too...?

Having said that, the 182 cups are becoming very cheap fun cars.

Performance wise they're pretty much on a par with the S2K, maybe slightly faster. I met a guy who had one at the petrol station one day and we raced a couple of times. Far more sure footed than the S2K was.

Could be some cheap thrills there, and a nice car that stands out in a crowd.

I really have no idea what to buy next. Absolutely nothing else appeals. I'd buy a CSL or M3, but the servicing and warranty is shocking. And I wouldn't buy a 996 unless it was a facelifted C2 with low miles which is still probably mid-high 30's.

I have nothing against cheap cars either, but I just can't find any I like that would be decent to run on a regular basis. The Clio V6 is a very interesting prospect.

I'm thinking about an Evo X 320 or so when they arrive.

Yup I agree Pete, I did considder one a while back as a stop gap, and bought an ITR instead. Good choice - never missed a beat and I made money on it

I still think the V6 looks absolutely marvellous.

But the clio is like 1500kg and only 255bhp surely an s is going to be quicker round the bends and in the corners.
