When I was servicing the SC S2 I tested the brake fluid. Still good at 1% moisture

The FL5 was 1.3% so needs done really

New car my arse

26.7mpg.. is that better?

Well yes but not much.

But the update is I am totally smitten with the FL5 despite it's front wheel drive I can't grip until 3rd in the UK winter drawback.

It's bloody brilliant despite that, such finesse in the controls, such feedback...

I kerbed an alloy so repair due this week. I have done this 3 times in my life and it hurts. The two others, one was a building site and one was parking in a tight spot and dropped off a kerb. With the FL5 it is wide - 1890mm wide Vs 1750 for an S2 - and lack of 360 cameras causing me issues. I've been de skilled.. anyways onwards

Off to a few shows at NEC in Nov, it will be a bonus to not worry about charging

It's so bad because I assumed it was a branch or something but apparently I am not atuned to the steering

The 50 mile each way trip was fine (NEC classic then the MCL this weekend)

With a passenger you notice it's not quiet (road noise) I think due to 4 x 265

But 33mpg.. almost 34 on the way back. Stellar. Not.

Watched a vid of drag races Vs a tuned DC2. FL5 lost. Not it's forte at all

I don't think my fronts will last so might look at more extreme rubber for next year but other than this it's fulfilling the brief

Dog wagon
Child lugger
Daily
Fun
Quick

At times it feels very fast and at others not so much. The turbo effect I guess.

The bike show was busy, the main brands were there and Harley returned but it was maybe 30-40% Chinese crap, chucked together reanimated brands including BSA, AJS (only old ****ers will know this one) and a few others. Really mixed quality but not something I think I will ever go for

The classic show was great, loads of old stuff built proper.. you can tell I am not 30 anymore. Modern stuff more and more leaves me.cold. mate asked what I would buy (not a petrol head).. I said Pantera, Lotus, NSX (NA one) or TVR... Can't think of anything else.of interest

Mate across the road bought a 911 turbo with the Metzger engine.. that's nice though dated

Glad to hear you’re getting on with it, bar the wheels of course that have been fairly fragile on all 3 variants. Have you considered aftermarket reducing the rim size by 1” and making up the difference with higher profile tyres? That’s what folk were doing with the FK2 and FK8 though never got to that point myself, I did lose 2 wheels over 6 years to a brick(!) and pothole!

Have you any feedback on how well the Adaptive Cruise works? How about the sound system? How noisy is the cabin, and did you consider that when you said it was a good mile muncher?

I’ve been using a MY15 Lexus RX450h for my mile munching and it’s lovely at what it does (no adaptive cruise, but Mark Levinson audio which is great), but I miss the unburstable performance of the FK2, and the interior of the FL5 looks a cut above previous Hondas, so am seriously looking at an FL5 now they’re down to about £40k now. After my experience with the FK2, I’ve every confidence the FL5 will be just as reliable if not more so. There was some corrosion on my FK2 after 6 years, particularly the Aluminium parts, and it probably would have appreciated an under seal when I bought it…doesn’t look like you’re giving the same abuse to yours though.

I was considering a Lexus NX450h+ (7% BIK) but I’m not expecting to need the comfort of these cars for some years yet, though am doing about 40k miles per year. I know you used to daily an Insignia, how does the FL5 compare to that?

All the best

I have considered smaller wheels but these are 19 to the FK8 20s.. its not something currently plan to do

On about 3k miles now

I find it fine on a haul, it's not loud inside but louder, no doubt, than the Lexus. It has road noise due to 4 x 265 sticky tyres

40k is a lot of miles for a car like this, will cost you a ton. Get a Tesla or a diesel. I get 26 ish mpg still

In terms of the FL5 I love it, all of the touch points are just so well honed. Stereo is good to me but I'm not an obsessive. I often have the dogs in so keep the volume low. Always Spotify or podcasts through android auto, all seamless enough.

The handling is astounding but it's not great in snow

Adaptive cruise is good, easy to use and works well though I rarely use the steering stuff..it's the same system as on the Honda e and it's just that bit easier to use than older Honda's. I keep my distance and use it a lot in specs cameras, I don't do tons of motorway

There is not much metal exposed, just suspension parts but I guess lanoguard is an option

I did use an old vectra diesel for mile munching like yours, it was softer suspension, was pretty reliable tbh and took the abuse. I'd say it was marginally quieter and more comfortable.

Keep in mind you will add 80k in 2 years and that will seriously destroy your residuals on a car like this.. for me by all means get one, then slog around in a golf diesel and use the CTR on Friday

Mine is ****ing filthy ATM, need a dry weekend to clean it

In terms of a long run it's far better than the e and more relaxing than the S2 (either SC or NA) but not as relaxing as the CRV which is hugely comfy

To follow up this thread pinged in my brain as I took the dogs to the park this morning and crashed into the 5th massive pothole

Don't do it

I am thinking about bangernomics now lol

Those are summer tires in the pic, not the all season ones.

There are several types of wheel rim protectors, some attach to the wheel while some are a rim sticking out of the tyre sidewall, had tyres with the later and they did save the wheel from minor contact, maybe going up a size on the width would help too?

Back thinking 18s might be worthwhile

The roads here are woeful

Cleaned it today and decided to look at PPF for rear bumper. Even with 2 protectors it's getting scuffed by the dogs

First road fund bill arrived, it is £600+

Same for another few years of communist anti fun then drops down

I wish they would actually spend it on roads.. budget for Notts roads is £33m, there are around half a million cars here so the maths doesn't stack up very well

Vote reform. It's the last opportunity you have at this point, we tried the others and they emptied the safe, left us with 3rd world roads and invited Abdul the exploder to a hotel down the road at your expense

Oh and now at 22mpg

Happy days (I don't give a shit, not even done 4k yet)
