I've been looking again at options for a daily-driver and in my search for something other than the usual suspects, my attention was grabbed by a left-field option I spotted at a local Citroen dealer - a very low mileage C6.
I really like the styling of the C6 but have never really come to terms with the idea of buying a £35K plus French limo' from a showroom that spends most of its time flogging four-wheeled tat to the great unwashed.
Anyway, the C6 in question was 11 months old, had 8K miles on it and the sticker price was £14,995 - the temptation for a test drive was simply too great. This was a 2.7 V6 diesel (same engine as Jaguar and Land Rover) with 6 speed auto', full leather, navigation, memory seats, acres of space, daft dashboard with HUD and a bucketload of Citroen quirkiness of old.
The ride was superb - as were the seats - and very quiet. It was very much like driving an armchair and would be great for my daily commute. Alas the the electronic handbrake was faulty and had stuck on, so my impression of the performance was somewhat tainted. That the tyre pressure monitor came on because of a 'slightly flat tyre' didn't do much to inspire confidence in the dealer - but I really like the car.
If I can find one in black with cream upholstery and that has actually been prepared with a view to selling it, I may well get behind the wheel of one these on a long-term basis.
I seem to remember the Telegraph saying that the build quality of the C6 was a vast improvement, but the hand brake problem is not inspiring is it?
But the price is great isn't it, that's magical depreciation, but at least there's not a lot left to depreciate thereafter
Funny how many Ford , Jaguar and Landrover drivers/owners get very snotty when advised that their engines are from the PSA group. Even funnier are Saabs with Fiat Engines in the Vauxhall Clones
As long as you can afford to write off £10K - it's a bargain.
Absolutely.
But I'd take a car allowance instead in lieu of the contract hire cost to my company. If the car was reliable, had an extended warranty and figure in its 20K mile service interval, even if it was was worth £0 after 3 years, it might make 'sense'...
