Diesel engine cold start problems
I've asked this question on a Saab forum, but it's like a ghost town over there......
Could leaking injector seals explain lumpy/poor cold starting with puff of smoke on a Diesel engine (Saab 1.9TiD = PSA/Fiat rubbish)?
Any comments welcome...........

What's the mileage on it? I'd have a guess that it's a sticky injector as my Clio is the same, starts second time every time.
I had the fault code read and it's saying low pressure on injector #2.

The one thing I do know about diesels is that the injectors work at much higher pressure than petrol injectors, maybe 20-50 times as much. So I'd have thought a leaking seal would cause significant running problems.
They all throw a chug of smoke on cold startup ...
I'd suggest what Nick says but also have a google around for glow plug issues / wiring issues. Could also be dirty sensors - have you taken it for a good italian tune up?

Welcome to Just Answer, This is a common fault on this engine, it is caused by air getting into the leak off system and this lets the diesel drain back from the fuel filter.<br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);">First you will need to get the leak off pipes and their "t" pieces replaced, these pipes perish and this is where the air gets into the system, after this it should be OK after the initial start but if the problem persists then the transverse injector seals will need replacing, these also let Air in, this is a bigger job requiring partial removal of the camshaft.<br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);">As for the engine light, this may be one of a number of sensor faults and may not directly effect the poor starting, the car will need to be put on a diagnostic computer and have its fault codes checked.<br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);"><br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.984375px; background-color: rgb(234, 249, 252);">I hope this helps, best regards, Vauxdoc.
