Why is the price of any fuel rising a source of merriment?

Surely the next step "I'll laugh when all oil fuels are £2.30 a litre cos I drive a hybrid"

Then the solar powered guys will laugh when the price of the materials in batteries costs so much due to fuel costs for shipping.

As I believe Einstein said "I don't know with what weapons WWIII will be fought but WW IV will be with sticks andf rocks"

Transport wise we are heading for the dark ages

You've almost answered your own question.

It's to do with supply and demand. There is only so much capacity for refining diesel. As demand has risen in recent years, the price has risen accordingly. If demand increases massively overnight with all merchant shipping using it, then the price will rise. This will affect diesel and not petrol. The fuel shipping currently uses is refined from the same crude, so the price of a barrel of crude won't increase but the price of specific fuels will.

I'd laugh cos I fecking hate diesels.
And, as petrol is a substitute good, the price of petrol would rise as people switched from diesel to petrol..............

Not sure it's funny at all

It's pretty obvious that the oil companies would offset the cost of diesel against the potential cost of petrol.

In the end it will hit everyone's pockets.

Not funny at all

Crikey, did everyone get out the wrong side of bed?

I would only be laughing at all the dieselists who have been telling us how great their cars are when really it's all about cost.

In fact, I've seen posts on other forums recently bleating about the relative cost and how there's less and less savings to be made by owning a diesel.

This is a good thing. I'm sick and tired of being half choked every time a diesel car drives by when I'm walking, or when I'm stuck behind one when driving with the roof down. Never mind the early morning racket as my neighbours start theirs up.

It won't happen overnight anyway, as MB pointed out.

I had to fill the Jeep on the weekend, as it is currently the only car I have on the road. Usually I'd stick £30 in every couple of weeks, but it was down to vapour this time.

I thought it was funny

And I can understand the hatred of diesels

Going with a general pleasure at diesel owners' misfortune

Regardless of any wider effects

Hope that wasn't taken on a camera phone - you could have caused the filling station to blow up

Pretty impressive spend.

Diesel hatred is a bandwagon some sheep jump onto.

Crossed the pennines this morning at 5am all I saw
was truck after truck. All running on DERV. Just imagine
the knock on effect of costs etc. We would all lose out
im sure.

Russ.

what's sheep-like about hating:

a narrow rev band
the stink of the stuff
the mess left on forecourts and pumps
the particulates
the noise
the inferior performance
the typical ****s that drive TDis
