do you prefer big or small?
Difficult to answer.
In general, big and torquey for the road, small and revvy for the track.
I love the engine in my Legacy, it's not particularly powerful for a 3.0, only 240 bhp. It's torquey, loves to rev and is as smooth at 7000rpm as it is on tickover. Sounds very nice too, when you can hear it.
The k-series in my Caterham is not even remotely special but it's very well suited to the car and that superb 6 speed gearbox. The one I'm having built over Christmas is going to be a nice though, right up to the point that it explodes
