I did that find that an absolutely toss piece of journalism.

With the driving exercises, they should have made them do it in the focus as well to see whether the car was the influencer or whether the drivers were just poor.

And whilst we're at it let's look at the drivers...

1) a "wacky" mom who loves her huge 4x4 but she's too crazy to think how much pollution it makes or anything else about the car.

2) a hat wearing baffoon who is decidedly eccentric to make having a 4x4 seem like the geeks ideal

3) a car modding freak who loves to show the women a good time and look at the size of mah mota.

Hardly a wise spread of the demographic now was it?

As for the "big car demolishes small car" surprise. By that rational all trucks and buses, which are the biggest things on the road, should be removed too.

And what about planes or ships, they pollute even more.

If programs like this want to be taken seriously they shouldn't just dumb everything down. Or is that the point? Appeal to the none-thinkers of this world and we'll all live in a Eutopia only dreamed of.

You know what really Drives me Crazy - twats. So let's get rid of all of them then.

I did but I sold it. In my defence though I did drive it further than the local supermarket.

I caught only five minutes of it, the bit with the Land Rover owner proving he's a lot more careful driver in his girlfriend's Mini.

I have to say, when I was driving my huge Land Cruiser with the big bull bars, I did tend to drive more aggressively - something of a "let's see you try it" attitude, that I don't have now I'm in a Civic.

Whole program was devalued by its short sighted research and journalism.

The only voice of reason was the guy from the motortraders association explaining steps they are taking to make 4x4's safer for pedestrians etc. etc.

The shot they showed of the landy obliterating the civic was almost enough for me to want to buy a 4x4 - after all i'd rather be in that, than human pate when one hits me.

The hat wearing chap was so stupid he didn't KNOW about global warming (how can you miss it!) and the woman was a sycophant. Other bloke was just a max power knob (although i secretly quite liked his car).

They didn't say anything that was specific to 4x4's - bad visibility (as per most big cars and many small modern cars), causes a lot of damage in an accident (as per lots of heavy cars, vans, buses, lorrys, diesel mondeos lol), high emissions (well they picked 2 fairly old examples of 4x4's and a heavily modified one, what did they expect!!!)

Kelk made me watch this and as expected i was disappointed, i thought they might say something useful!

I recorded this last night, as I feared the worst and couldn't bring myself to watch it. I'll make an effort to see it this evening.

I wasn't expecting much tbh as ITV insist on using celebrates to tell me how to live my life. Yeah, and they are soooo bloody perfect. Had this been made by Horizon on BBC2 it would have been a lot more factual and probably worthwhile watching. But like it's already been said, it sounds like it was dumbed down for the masses.

Its a complete bag of baylocks. All this rediculous kind of program does is generate agression toward owners of these cars. John Seargant appeared to know exactly zilch about cars. There is no reason why cars like these cant be driven on ever cleaner fuels and it is up to goverments to enforce this on oil companies. These cars are already around so you cannot just wipe them off the planet and its not just 4x4s that are damaging. The irony is that we are encouraged to use public transport but I would suggest that buses and trains are the biggest cause of air pollution in our cities along with badly maintained lorries and vans. Its the fuels that need adressing not the size and height of a car.

Good to see this thread. I had the misfortune to watch this last night and was literally shouting obscenities at the TV. What a complete load of crap. John Sergeant can be quite funny (on Have I got news for you), but last night I just wanted to punch his podgy little face.

The bit where they had 9 kids squashed up behind the car really got me annoyed.

Our family car is a Volvo XC90, we have 3 kids and it's pretty difficult getting 3 booster seats in the back of a "normal" car. Plus no.2 daughter has special needs so we always have some extra kit to cart around. But frankly, I don't need to justify this to anyone.

I really didn't want to buy an MPV or an estate, so we bought the Volvo.

My co-director has a land rover defender and he doesn't give a damn what john sergeant thinks.

The Defender is an environmentally freindly car (if you factor in most of the impact is in the manufacture and these things stay on the roads for 20 years +)

If you REALLY want to wind me up though use two words.
Carbon Neutral... arrrrrgh

The whole presentation was pretty dire & insulting - almost makes me want to go out and buy a 4x4 in protest

We should be picking up Donna's new CRV this weekend.

At least this one has a reversing camera so I'll be able to watch as I reverse over all the little school kids.
