Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from date of conviction if the offence is:

reckless/dangerous driving (shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80)
offences resulting in disqualification
disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed

Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from the date of offence in all other cases.

It makes sense to me

What about the "3 year life" of the things though - does this run from date of offence or date of conviction? (I couldn't see this mentioned anywhere)

It will be 1 year less than the applicable 4 year bit - I guess

Thats the bit I'm not so sure about (I'll tell "my friend" to go out and get nicked on a scamera 37 months after the date of offence - 32 after court - and see if he gets a totting up ban). On second thoughts, maybe not a good idea, but it would be a shame to carry on driving like Miss Daisy 5 months more than necessary
