Default Driving in the rain

I have just driven back from Manchester going via the Woodhead pass (anyone familiar with this?) We had very heavy rain, spray and some of the route was in cloud.

I am amazed at how many cars didn't have their headlights on, in fact the number of cars that did have them on were less than 10. I'm including the twats that had their sidelights on, that's about as much use as a chocolate teapot (and don't get me started on the idiots who put their foglights on when it starts to rain! )

Don't they care about their safety? Don't driving instructors teach people to put their dipped headlights on in rain anymore?

F**king idiots!!!!!

(now claming down with a large glass of wine and in training for the JAE )

I remember making a memorable run back to Scotland years ago. It was after midnight on the M74 with the rain tipping down. I was in my company Rover 620 Turbo, making obscene progress, with this blasting on the CD. Since then, it's always been my "rain at night" driving music ...

It's pounding beat goes nicely with the wipers ...

Gritty and I could have done with that on the gorgeous A507 today Shisky, though think our wipers were ahead of that beat. Weather partially scuppered our plans but we remain undeterred.

Funnily enough we had some heavy showers today and I saw most people driving along blindly with no lights on. Total madness. And they'll happily drive right up your ar$e as well.

Same idiots that get in the car and pull straight off without clearing the windows when they are covered in snow / ice or the car is steamed up and they clear a postbox viewing area.

Awesome roads

But yes it totaly agree,

I just put my lights on everytime i drive now,

Hate foglights anytime other then proper fog but rain makes it worse,

Even more so when your low in the S or similar car,

Similar levels of stupidity

Always makes me laugh when you get someone driving along, trying to look through the letter box of clear windscreen, they could be bothered to scrap clear of ice that morning.

foglights may be used in heavy rain

if they are dazzling you - keep your distance

I think foglights are helpful in conditions like yesterday's when it is raining stair rods and you can hardly see the front of your own bonnet, let alone what is ahead of you.

Very important to remember to turn them off as soon as the heavy rain and accompanying spray eases. It is the height of rudeness to leave then unnecessarily illuminated. The switch on the S is partially obscured so an easy error to make if you haven't got your wits about you.
