Driving in the snow

Now that cars have stupid levels of mass & power, 4WD is indispensible.
Just remember to pull the ABS fuse before setting off.
WTF's all this 'never driven in snow' before stuff? The entire population of Finland and myself had never driven in the snow before, once!
Mind you, I'm forever bouncing in & out of ditches and stuff; it's not just Gad!

Saw a few absolute Tw@ts out this morning. scary thing they were the bigger lorries and cars. Trouble with the roads in London this morning is that into a stopping point they were just sheets of compacted snow. away from the lights and it was often just a bit of slush, so drivers were pulling away quite fast but later unable to stop.
Riding a push bike was not to bad but some of the roads were patchy with clear bits amongst the snow and ice. Think I'm going to try dropping my pressures for the ride home and I'm leaving the office shortly.

Fat tyres, a slushbox and no weight over the rear wheels.
Ultimate driving machine my arse
Or was it the driver

I don't put driving ability anywhere in the list of things that make up a man
just as well really..........
I could try and think of an excuse, but I can't really
just wish I had jumped out, ran around the front and pushed it back before it slid into the post
I had enough time

Those are annoying because one really feels it ought to be possible. Just don't try it with that 1.8 tonne behemoth! It's that bloody Newton again...
I find the higher speed approach more exciting: I once somersaulted both ends of a FIAT 124 into a deep ditch (that's when I first realised rev-matching as being essential!) before it bounced back onto the road in the intended direction. I simply re-opened the throttle and continued on my way.
Total damage was the front numberplate being slightly bent back!
I don't understand what the problem is. It's just like normal except there's less grip. Just drive accordingly. I can't believe the amount of people who are refusing to drive on the motorway because a bit of snow is settling on it!
My dad wrote his Subaru off a few weeks ago in the snow, and I know full well that it's easy to get caught out. But even he will admit that he shouldn't have tried to put the power down as much as he did coming out of a corner. He said he didn't think a 4WD would have any problem in those conditions...
My best drive in the snow was in a little Saxo VTS about 8 years ago. I was doing about 30mph over the Eaglesham moors and passed Shoguns etc doing about 10mph max. I also sailed past a queue of cars stuck behind some fudd in a (no doubt automatic) E46 with the tail wagging half way up a hill going nowhere. I could see for at least a mile, so just eased into the other side of the road and the momentum carried me up without any change in throttle position. At the top I saw a Boxster in the ditch who'd tried what I did a minute or so earlier but put the power on at the top.
I think a lot of people need their driving license taken away if they don't have the confidence to drive in anything less than ideal driving conditions.

It doesn't matter how tallented you are at snow driving. It only takes one dumbshit to crash into you and the day is ruined.
If you have the option to leave it in the garage, do it.
