Whilst I am (as everyone is clearly aware ) as self-proclaimed driving god on track, I know I'm shite in the snow.

I've not driven the car, was supposed to drive 140 miles to work this morning, decided discretion was the better part of valour as I have to cross the pennines.

I picked a really good time to upgrade the rears on my M3 from 255 to 275 tyes.

Being ancient I have snow driving experience.

In 1962/63, when one of my father's employees drove his motorbike on our frozen pond, I drove our Ford Pop in the snow off road. Wasn't old enough to take to the road.

Think it was in 1982 when I drove Sazzy and her brother to school across town in the snow partly off road in my Lancia Beta Spider. It is a new town and was designed with green wedges alongside the roads. The traffic was gridlocked so I took to the wedges. The FWD Lancia coped very well. This was the soundtrack:

My son was into Jean Michel Jarre, I think because Magnetic Fields had recently been released. Vividly remember listening to this, think the high electronic notes sound very sparkly, snowy and icy.

Russ.
I thought the S was great in the snow. The Elise is much more benign. I haven't claimed to be a superior driver, just not a whimpering fandan unwilling to even give something a try.

Always makes me laugh these young whipper snappers that go on about ABS and traction control being a good thing in the snow.

all well and good trusting your driving abilities, but if you stop the car and it's still sliding, and you have minimal space to do anything about it (as usual around here anyway) what are you goin to do ?

Good to see everybody embracing the cliche of the British being unable to cope with a light sprinkling of snow.

I made it 20 miles to work in the S, and back again this evening. I used the handbrake and second gear a few times to get traction, but mostly the main roads were clear. There was a particularly nasty stretch of black ice on the A421 near Buckingham first thing, but I could feel the steering go light and gently slowed down, and gave myself loads of room to stop for the upcoming roundabout.

The whole thing was a bit of an anti-climax.

And you don't have to go too far back for snow. It snowed quite a bit last April. I distinctly remember driving to Rockingham in it.

I distinctly remember having my first meet in it.

it's no big deal is it?

we'll never get used to the snow in this country (England) for the simple reason that it's an incredibly rare event

most prangs will be like mine - slow speed, no-one hurt, just a bit of dented pride and the inevitable hassle while things are fixed

the snow on the way back from Goodwood was far worse than yesterday's - I did 30 miles unscathed in that and less than a mile today

but I'm quite excited now

I'm getting the whole lower half respray I had planned, brought forward by a couple of months

I'll get all four alloys refurbed at the same time

car will look fantastic when it's done

hubba hubba
