Default E30 M3

It's greedy I know, but I've been giving some thought to getting myself a 3rd car.

I was thinking of swapping my Caterham for a something more powerful after my first years racing but now I've got a realistic idea of how much more I've got to achieve with my driving I don't think it would be such a good plan just yet.

Another option would be to trade the Legacy for something posher like an Audi S4, BMW 335 tourer etc. but I'd just be doing that for the sake of it rather than any real desire.

So...

I'd like something for the occasional blast on the road and 5/6 track days a year, possibly the 'ring , that I can *comfortably* drive there and back.

The budget would be about 10k.

I know the right car for the job is an Elise but I *want* an E30 M3.

I never driven one but from what I've heard from people whose opinion I trust i.e. not magazines like EVO, they're all about handling so should be right up my street.

I don't want a concours condition car, it will be wasted on me. Nor do I want a shed, it will be used on track so would need to be 100% mechanically.

Does anyone know much about them?

Is my budget realistic and am I naive to think I wouldn't lose much money on one if I were to resell it after a year or two?

I wouldn't be doing this until at least next summer BTW.

Nope, LHD is fine.

It wouldn't get used often enough to become a problem

I know that Munich Legends do various mods on them

However, they are also generally perceived to be expensive and have mixed feedback

Does it have to be RWD?

DC2 may be a good shout, as would a Corrado VR6 or G60.

Both supreme FWD cars, and can be had well within your budget - plus you are unlikely to lose out money wise. Very good depreciation.

If it's RWD then Nissan S200SX's of any vintage make good and reliable track cars. You could probably buy 3 of them for 10k

Not sure if you will like a FI car though?

A lot of people were using Alfa's at the Ring when I went...

the 75's are sort of a fleet run by a dutch guy in a nearby village..

not a bad track car being the last RWD alfa..

If I had the garage space I would get a 90's 3 series coupe with a big 6 cylinder and strip it out. Would be a lot cheaper than an M and quick enough to be fun.

In that price range, I'd consider a 968 Club Sport.
