Cheers guys

Plenty of reading there Gad, thanks.

I have considered DC2s etc. but this is very much about the M3 in particular, it's definitely an itch and more a heart than a head thing.

I'd also love a 968 CS but that's for another time and a bigger budget.

Munich Legends had a road legal E30 racer recently that was well under budget and probably quicker than a standard M3 but from what I understand there are some big differences in the M3 chassis that mean you can't just bolt bits on to make a standard one feel like an M3.

G I reckon you don't need to do anything.

If you do a track day in anything less focussed than the 7 you will tire of it v. quickly. Even an elise-chassis'ed car.

Anything more than the roadsport and you are into R400+ / Atom / radical terms.

I personally think you muight be having a biot of green grass going on rather than anything else.

Good plan
I keep looking around for a decent donor as a road going track day care.

You could have a point there, the 7 has probably spoilt most other cars for me when it comes to the track. The M3 may be one of the best handling saloons ever but it's still a saloon

Having said that, it's not intended to replace the Caterham in any way other than making track days a little more casual and trying something different.

It would make sense to try and get a drive of one on track before I did anything, which I don't think would be impossible.

Knowing me, I'll have moved on to something else in a year's time but until that scratch is itched.....

But if you take another car on a trackday won't you see it as time wasted where you could be honing your skills in the 7 for racing....?

If you're talking about 5-6 trackdays a year in the 3rd car, plus race days, plus testing/track time in the 7........

I keep thinking about taking the scoob on a trackday, but I see it as a large heavy wallowy car (comparatively) and I'm not sure about the brakes - the 7 has truly spoilt other cars for me on track!

Mind you, if you want to dilute your track time in the 7 with something else it's only to my benefit in the long run so go for it

I don't think sitting in the pit lane, showing the contents of your S2000 engine bay to other S2000 owners counts, does it?
