Honda Civic? May be a touch over your £2k but will last for ever.

I would advise against an older diesel Mondeo. Injectors are very prone to conking out.

 

And the dual mass fly wheels are quite expensive as well!

I may just spend arounf £1k and get a little 1.25 16v zetec fiesta.

I'm looking at the 1.7 DTi engined Vauxhalls as well for around £1500.
