Default E92 M3 on track

Morning all,

Mate of mine is planning to come to Spa this year in his M3 coupe. Good man

I suggested to himt he brakes might not be up to 2 full days abuse on track, but i'm not an M3 expert by any means.

Anyone know what to advise? Told him to look on the M3 forums, but i'm sure there's some knowledge on here too.

they won't be, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with half a brain

it's a criticism levelled at M cars by lots of people - as if the M cars were ever designed as track cars

there are options from upgraded pads through discs and hoses, fluids and additional cooling and I think the M forums are the place to look

is he going to 'abuse' the car for two days?

whenever I watch track driving I'm always surprised by how many people just cruise around at boring speeds

if he's going to do that, there'll be no need to do anything

If he's going to leave the TC on, then he'll need to upgrade the brakes. But a pads/disks/fluid combination will suffice. Performance Friction pads and disks will probably do and just change the fluid, ensuring's it's a decent spec fluid.

That's all he'll need to do.

Also, tell him how to "manage" his brakes. If he's cooking them, lift off 100 yards earlier than you would, then when you brake, stamp of the pedal as hard as you can until you've scrubbed the speed off. Works wonders.

All the above are valid.

I used redstuff and cheap Brakes International at Coombe.

They survived but the fluid went off, and needed a bleed after.
Get some Motul in there as a minimum.

I would remove the shields too, very easy to do up front if the caliper is off anyhow - its bolt on.

I didnt think Spa was harsh on the brakes due to long cooling sections.

More of an issue would be road tyres on a 1600KG car in high ambients.
Might have to do 2laps at a shot.
