Default Engine Failure

Driving along in my wifes 7 week old Diesel Civic at 45mph after a 50 mile journey and a loud clunking noise suddenly coming from the engine.
Pulled over and engine stalled. Turned it over again and engine fired but with much noise.
Called the AA who towed the car to my local Dealer.
This morning they have called me to advise that the engine has failed and will be removed and returned to Honda UK. A new engine will be fitted next week.

One of the reasons for choosing another Honda was the outstanding reliability !!!!

What do you think, should I be seeking compensation or demading a new car instead of just an engine ?

I would, I'm buggered if I'd want to sell a car I had from new with a different engine # to the log bbok.

The log book would be updated with a new engine number, not sure if it is noted on there though ??

However I would be asking Honda for a new car to be honest.

New car for sure.

I'd be very suprised if Honda objected to that.

If it's that new, definitely get the car replaced - you don't know what else might go wrong!

I would push for a replacement car.

Reject the car

I did this with my first saxo after a few days when the oil ran dry and she started to knock. The dealer agreed she fired through the oil unreasonably quickly and I got a whole new car. I'm pretty sure they just topped the other one up and sold it again!

I think they would legally be entitled to just replace the engine.

Update........

Just rung the dealer to insist on a replacement car.
They have said that Honda have no legal obligation to replace the car but only to make any necessary repairs / replacement and restore the car to workable condition. They will however put my request to Honda UK and let me know the response.

The dealer has drained the oil and found metal filings so they have now removed the sump and found that the crank shaft bearing casing is shattered.

Should I be approaching Honda UK direct or just leaving the dealer to do this on my behalf initially?

Blimey, sounds like a bad casting. Bloody British car workers!

Basically, all those shards have probably been circulated thoughout the oil system.

I'd push for a factory engine.
