Update........

Just rung the dealer to insist on a replacement car.
They have said that Honda have no legal obligation to replace the car but only to make any necessary repairs / replacement and restore the car to workable condition. They will however put my request to Honda UK and let me know the response.

The dealer has drained the oil and found metal filings so they have now removed the sump and found that the crank shaft bearing casing is shattered.

Should I be approaching Honda UK direct or just leaving the dealer to do this on my behalf initially?
Everytime my dealer has gone to Honda UK it's been turned down, so don't be surprised. However whenever MrV has then subsequently phoned direct and given them an earbashing they have backed down

Def worth a go if you get a knock back but get your facts/argument together before you call

Check your purchase contract 'cause it may include a cooling off period during which time you have the right to return the car and Honda are required to refund the money.

I'd leave the dealer to get on with it initially - leave them to come up with a solution, and only contact HUK if you don't get what you want.

2 parties trying to deal direct with HUK at the same time will just cause confusion.

Reject the car

I did this with my first saxo after a few days when the oil ran dry and she started to knock. The dealer agreed she fired through the oil unreasonably quickly and I got a whole new car. I'm pretty sure they just topped the other one up and sold it again!

As a s/h car buyer, i've just rejected a Civic Type-R that had had and engine replacement (documented and by HUK) on the recommendations of people on this and other fora.

Too many good cars out there to bother with a vehicle that has an 'imperfect' - though documented - history.

As others have said, I'd push for a replacement vehicle or you may struggle to shift it, come selling time...
