Default Engine Failure Advice

Morning all, hoping for some advice.

On Sunday I was driving home from Manchester in the DC5 with my girlfriend, and while accelerating in lane 3 of the M1 there was a loud bang from the engine, followed by smoke and pieces of engine falling onto the road. Pulled over and saw 50 quids worth of oil following the car.

Happened in roadworks, so I got a free lift to the services and after joining the AA finally got home at 1am (broke down just before 7pm),

Have you had a look at how tight the Oil filter is

To be honest you will get nothing but a good will offer from Honda, I had the exact same as you and around 2k miles later I needed a new engine (sorry to possibly bare bad news) I took mine through all levels in Honda UK and only got offered a cost price new engine, a 7k mile used one was less than half that price.

Just my opinion but that seems a little different to my situation - this was 300 miles at most and the service was only last week.

Someone on the ITR board has just posted that the same happened to them and they managed to win a small claims court case to have the garage pay for a rebuild at a specialist.

I think the key will be in showing fault, if indeed they were at fault - I'm keeping an open mind at the moment. But for the engine to blow so soon after they had the car I don't see how they aren't at least partly at fault.

Depends on the cause of the failure.

I think you've got to ascertain why the engine failed before you can do anything else.

It may be down to service, it may be totally unrelated and its just bad luck.

I'm sorry to hear that its blown though. Having had a few new engines in my respective S2k's you have my sympathy. Thankfully mine were all under warranty.

And the plug, as above.

My initial issue was the day after my service, was cleaned up and another oil change was performed, then 2k later engine went bang.

It's all down to proof, which is where you struggle

Oil drain bolt and filter are still there. I had a look last night and there is a hole in the bottom end of the block, it appears to have thrown a rod.

Not the best pic but you can see the hole here
