F1 Canada
I think JV is spot on about his "chopping" comments. The British media love it, and he will big a great big hero until he puts someone on their roof. Anyone who's driven like that has usually done just that.
I just strongly dislike the guy, I have done since the first day of the season and the way the media have covered him. He's the best prepared rookie this sport has ever seen, and he is driving accordingly.
I have now stopped watching the pre-race shite on ITV-F1 because of their coverage. It's now become "The Lewis Hamilton Show, featuring F1 at the end", and I really can't abide that. Ted Kravitz opinion on what happened at Monaco was presented as fact, which is misleading viewers. I now watch a race 1hr in so I can fast forward all the hype and pick what I want to watch.
I'm more disappointed in Alonso for not scoring the pole, than I am impressed that Hamilton bagged it. He was purple in sectors one and two and should have had enough in his pocket to steal between 1 and 3 tenths from his team-mate. But he over-drove and lost out. Hamilton kept it together though, which he should be commended for.

I completely agree with you that ITV in particular, and now the rest of the British media, are completely over-hyping him, but sadly this always happens with any sniff we get of a sporting star here in England, as they seem to be so few and far between. And I agree it has made the pre-race show one for the Sky+ box. But I can't blame Lewis for all that, he is just getting out there and doing his job, incredibly well for a rookie. He has never even been to Canada before, and he has outqualified a double World Champion who not only knows this track well, but is a winner there. Amazing stuff.
As for the aggressive starts, they are supposed to be racing drivers FFS, and the start and the pit stops are the main points of the race to make up places, so it is about time someone started to take advantage of the starts. Alonso certainly did so many times when Renault had their huge start-line traction advantage.

I do kind of agree about the coverage, but it is a British show so you'd expect them to feature the British drivers more than the rest. And they do feature Button, Coulthard and Davidson quite a lot, but only one British driver is really giving us something to cheer about. And it's been a long time since we've had that - 10 years since Damon Hill was champion.
I do fast forward sometimes too.
I'm confused by this thing about agressive starts. For one thing: why does anybody listen to Jaques Villeneuve these days? Lewis seems to want to race, and I hope F1 and McLaren don't beat that out of him.

1. Crazy Dave Coulthard and his mad overtaking attempt, which nearly decapitated Wurz
2. Alonso after losing out to Massa on the first corner, going off track, and then just wildly charging back onto the track with little or no regard for the other cars there - he was very lucky not to take out both his team mate and one other car.
I think both you and JV should be ranting about those incidents, and not the successful and exciting manouevres by Lewis.
It's the Tim Henman phenomenon I suppose. Glad I'm not the only one suffering from an allergic reaction to it.
I think it's good that he goes for the kill of the start, but there have been several where he has forced his team mate to brake and caused Alonso to lose ground as a result.
But I can see the other side of the coin that we want exciting racing, and not passing in the pit-stops. I honestly can't think of anything more boring and less rewarding than doing so, which is why I want pit stops banned. 2005 was a great season because the tyres had to last a full race distance, make the cars the same too/

so he now has a pole position to add to his other glittering list of achievements
I'm glad that's out of the way
I would like to get his first win out of the way too
But I can't see it happening today, without an accident affecting Alonso
