Nice job by Lewis and an even better one by Kubica
I wonder how much straight lining the end of the lap is worth? IIRC Kubica initially took pole by 0.012 - which could easily just be down to staying over to the right. Hamilton did it on the last lap too, not that he needed too.

Ferrari were strangely quiet today.

Neither Massa or Kimi seemed to have the quali pace
I just thought Monaco was a blip for them, but maybe McLearn are closing the gap. It's always hard to tell from qualifying tbh.

Putting aside for a moment the fact that I can't stand Hamilton, why is it when he qualifies significantly ahead of anyone else not once does anyone question the amount of fuel he is running? Not ONCE! Anyone else running that admittedly great time in qualifying would have had their fuel strategy questioned. No it's Hamilton and his fantastic kerb crawling ability.

I'm quite prepared to eat humble pie tomorrow though

And note the comparison with Alonso......

Still a good drive from Hamilton though

Very muted Ferrari performance, as already said

Notwithstanding the fact that it's not really their kind of circuit, I expect a strong showing in the race itself

A repeat of Monaco would lead me to suspect something more serious behind the scenes

Perhaps, but Monaco / Montreal are circuits where Ferrari have failed to shine over the last few years. Whilst the result in Monaco was no doubt disappointing for them, I thought the cars pace in the dry was cause for optimism.

Whith regard to the respective fuel loads in quali, I would be surprised / disappointed if McLaren were running a very light car - unlike Monaco there is no need to do this - overtaking is not a major issue in Montreal, so why compromise your race with an overly skinny car in qualifying?

Probably because young Lewis Hamilton is basically God! He could be carrying an extra 20 litres of fuel, have a broken arm, be chatting on his mobile to his rapper mates and still beat everyone else hands down

Nobody runs that light as it's a stupid strategy for the race.

OK, how about looking at the Q2 times - no silly fuel games being played there and still 0.3 sec. ahead of the next fastest man (Kimi). As I stated above, the reason Lewis's fuel load is not being questioned in Montreal is that there is no point running a light car here (for a top team at least) - with the big stops the cars have to do, there are plenty of overtaking oportunities.
