in qualifying the track usualy gets faster as more cars go out.

so the slower cars go out first so the faster cars can go out later and get even faster times.

why??? cant the sesion be reversed so the slower cars go last and make for a possibly more interesting grid.

or is that just stupid???
it's not stupid.. but would not make great TV.. since once the top ten have gone everybody would switch off.. I mean would you actually sit and wait for albers to do his lap?

Mclaren were stupid to leave Kimmi out,
So easy to say with 20/20 hindsight. But this is motor racing - Kimi and McLaren are out the to win races.....not pick up safe points.

Offer a real racing driver a safe, reliable mid field car or a fast, potentially race winning car which may kill him (Lotus were good at this sort of thing in the 70' and early 80's!) and he will go for the fast, dangerous car every time.

exactly, Colin Chapman was delighted when his cars fell to bits as they crossed the finish line.. it meant he had built the car just strong enough, anything more and it was considered over engineering.

Anybody can build a bridge that lasts.. just make it massive, but it takes a lot more skill and ingenuity to build one that only just stands up..

TV ratings. If all the big guns went in the first 15 mins, everyone would switch off when the Minardi's come on.

Yep, in reverse order. This is based on the very safe assumption that the big guns always finish first, and will therefor go out last. This keeps everyone watching till the end and guarantees advertising revenue.

If people only watched the top 10 who came out first, then viewing figures would tail off and devalue the advertising space.

Is that a normal BWM owners pastime?

It is if you're visiting Wells Next The Sea on a bank holiday weekend.

Slightly concerned about my car in Le Mans though as a result. When we arrived and made our way across the field to our mates, the car grounded about 4 or 5 times on the various lumps and bumps.. then when I parked up the exhaust (pipes into the back of the silencers) was touching the grass and I couldn't see daylight under the car - was parked on a slight dome - the grass was only about 3 inches long, needless to say the freshly cut/churned up grass in Le Mans might be a fire risk
